Singapore Changi Airport experienced robust growth in passenger and aircraft movements from April to June 2024, handling 16.5 million passengers, a 13.4% increase year-on-year, reaching 98.2% of pre-pandemic levels. Aircraft movements also saw a significant rise, with 89,300 landings and take-offs during the quarter, reflecting a 9.7% year-on-year growth and reaching 94.5% of the same period in 2019. This growth underscores Changi’s ongoing recovery and resilience in the face of global travel disruptions.
China emerged as the standout market for Changi Airport, with passenger traffic doubling compared to the same quarter last year and even surpassing pre-COVID levels. North Asia, as a region, registered the fastest growth, with a 40.8% year-on-year increase, also exceeding pre-pandemic numbers. Changi’s top five markets for this period were Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Australia, and India, demonstrating strong regional travel demand as air travel rebounds.
In addition to passenger movements, Changi Airport’s airfreight operations also showed remarkable performance, with 486,000 tonnes of cargo handled, a 16% increase from the previous year. Growth was driven by strong cargo flows between Singapore, China, and the United States. The airport’s expanding global network, which now includes more flights and new destinations such as Broome, Brussels, Quanzhou, and Vancouver, positions Changi as a key global hub, enhancing its connectivity and aiming for full travel recovery by the end of 2024.
