On April 22, Daewoo Engineering & Construction (Daewoo E&C) signed on as the main contractor for the Tangguh Expansion Ph2 project, an Indonesian LNG liquefaction plant project, located in the Bintuni Bay area of Papua Barat, western Indonesia.
Tangguh Expansion Ph2 is a high-level plumbing project related to the construction of Tangguh LNG Train 3 liquefied plant, to increase the site’s annual production to 3.8 million tons of LNG. The construction cost is estimated at USD 50 million. A consortium called CSTS, comprising PT Chiyoda International Indonesia, a wholly owned subsidiary of Japanese Chiyoda group, PT Tripatra Engineers and Constructors, PT Tripatra Engineering, PT Saipem Indonesia and PT Suluh Ardhi Engineering, has the EPC (Engineering, procurement, and construction) contract for the project.
The project is part of Daewoo E&C’s plans to enter new markets in South East Asia, in line with the South Korean government’s New Southern Policy. It also marks another successful cooperation with Saipem, the leading Italian engineering company which specializes in drilling activities and the development of major energy projects, after previous LNG collaborations in Mozambique and Nigeria.
