German Company Wins Contract to Supply Engines to the Indonesian Navy

February 2021

A German company, MAN Energy Solutions, has won a contract from shipbuilder Abeking & Rasmussen to supply MAN 12V175D-MM engines for two mine-countermeasures vessels (MCMVs) to the Indonesian Navy. The new MCMVs will replace the two older Pulau Rengat-class MCMVs, which were commissioned in March 1988.
The two engines will be able to deliver 2,220 kW at 1,900 rpm. Besides engines, the company will also provide a MAN Alpha controllable-pitch, a twin screw-propeller system and an AKA hybrid power take-in system for silent operation while mine hunting.
Details of the new 62 m-long MCMVs are not as yet available. It has been reported that the platforms would feature a non-magnetizable hull, a “state-of-the-air-mine-hunting-sonar”, and have the ability to launch and retrieve remotely operated vehicles.
