Siriraj Hospital Implementing NTT and Cisco’s Telemedicine Solutions for Stroke Patients

February 2021

Global technology services provider companies NTT and Cisco commenced a partnership with one of the biggest public hospitals in Thailand, Siriraj Hospital, to implement telemedicine for rapid treatment for stroke patients. The collaboration has enabled the Siriraj Hospital to connect the first responders in the Mobile Stroke Unit (a high-tech ambulance) to the experts at the hospital for accelerated diagnosis during the transfer process. Timely treatments are of critical importance for stroke patients, which can sometimes be difficult with Bangkok’s frequent traffic congestions.
Equipped with Medical Image Transfer capabilities – including a high-speed multicellular router and a CT scanner – the Mobile Stroke Unit can scan the patient’s brain and transfer high-resolution images. Meanwhile, the integrated Cisco Telepresence video conferencing system allows doctors to fully assess the patient’s condition before they are transferred to the hospital. For optimal outcomes, Cisco WebEx enables the hospital and mobile-based teams to work together seamlessly.
In service since 2018, the Siriraj Mobile Stroke Unit has helped 380 stroke patients receive emergency medical treatment in Thailand so far. Plans are underway to extend Siriraj Hospital’s fleet of mobile stroke units by five in 2021.
Siriraj Hospital is Thailand’s oldest and largest hospital. The hospital is also collaborating with Huawei to build a 5G-powered smart hospital that is enabled with Cloud and AI.
