Turkish Technic Partners with Sapura Technics To Expand MRO Services in Malaysia

July 2021

Turkish Technic, an aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) firm for Turkish Airlines, signed a Heads of Agreement (HOA) with Sapura Technics as part of its plan to expand its investment opportunities and become an active player in the Asia-Pacific region.
Sapura Technics is a Malaysian aircraft MRO services company and a subsidiary of Sapura Resources Berhad. The HOA will observe the selling of a 51% stake in its commercial aircraft MRO unit to Turkish Airlines. Sapura Technics currently operates from Senai International Airport in Johor, Southern Malaysia, and specializes in line and base maintenance for Boeing 737s and Airbus A320-family jets.
Turkish Airlines Chief Executive, Ilker Ayci, has highlighted the company’s upcoming strategies to increase capabilities, expand customer portfolio, and explore growth efforts in the local market. In the forthcoming term, Turkish Airlines aims to increase investments further into Asia-Pacific, given the region’s status as the fastest developing in the world with a wide customer portfolio for MRO, as well as the region’s forecast to have the highest fleet ratio. The company has recently set up extensive maintenance facilities at its base in Istanbul to serve customers in Europe and the Middle East.
