This report is designed to provide an overview of the smart cities sector in Indonesia. The country offers a number of opportunities in the smart city space, bolstered by its rapid urbanization and development. According to market research firm International Data Corporation (IDC), the Indonesian government is investing USD 420 billion for various infrastructure projects crucial to developing smart cities over the next five years.
In recent years Indonesia has made significant strides in implementing smart city solutions. In 2017, the government has established a plan to develop 100 smart cities from 100 districts of Indonesia. These districts have undergone an assessment to qualify as a smart Indonesian city based on the following criteria: readiness of the vision, regulation, human resources, and the potential of each district.
Twenty-five cities were selected to become pilot hubs for smart technology integration in the country, where intelligent and modern technologies, such as smart mapping, parking sensors, traffic light detectors and heat maps that will provide real-time intelligent city services will be installed and integrated into each districts infrastructure. The remaining seventy-five smart cities, on the other hand, are under development, offering a significant partnering opportunity for experienced solution providers to work closely with smart city government leaders.
The report starts with a country profile, which is then followed by a snapshot of the Smart Cities sector. The report has four key sections, namely Smart Cities, Smart Water, Smart Transport and Smart Energy. Starting with the Smart Cities sector, we identify smart solutions and initiatives that have been deployed in the country. Subsequent chapters adopt the same approach.
