Coherent Corporation has reinforced its global growth strategy with the inauguration of a USD 127 million manufacturing facility in Dong Nai province. The new plant, located at Nhon Trach Industrial Park, was officially launched on July 28 and will produce precision-engineered materials and photonics components for use in smartphones, electric vehicles, medical devices, and other advanced technologies.
This project is described as a pivotal milestone in Coherent’s worldwide expansion and a strong signal of Vietnam’s attractiveness to global technology investors. With nearly USD 1 billion in registered capital across three projects in Dong Nai, Coherent is expected to generate more than USD 1.2 billion in annual output.
The Nhon Trach facility is designed around scalability, sustainability, and smart manufacturing systems, strengthening Coherent’s global supply chain and enhancing its capabilities in silicon carbide and optics. Gan YC, director of the new factory, said the investment creates a “strategic platform for innovation, growth, and long-term competitiveness” by combining advanced technologies with a high-quality local workforce. Nguyen Minh Man, General Director of Coherent Vietnam, added that the project demonstrates the company’s long-term commitment to Southeast Asia and its strategy to build regional centres of excellence. In the meanwhile, Vietnamese leaders highlighted the factory’s significance within the country’s drive to develop strategic industries such as semiconductors, renewable energy, and AI.
Founded in 1971, Coherent has grown into a global leader in semiconductor materials and photonics, with operations spanning 130 sites across 24 countries. The company first entered Vietnam in 2005 with a facility in Binh Duong and later expanded to Bac Ninh in 2019. Its latest Dong Nai projects, approved in 2024, focus on semiconductors, advanced optics, and measurement technologies, positioning Vietnam as a key hub in the company’s long-term innovation strategy.
