Japanese Company Launches New Sustainable Packaging Plant in Jakarta

September 2025

Japan-based DIC Corporation has opened a new production facility in Jakarta, Indonesia, dedicated to coatings for direct food contact materials. Located within the premises of its wholly owned subsidiary, PT DIC Graphics, the facility is positioned to support the growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions.

The new facility’s product lineup features advanced paper coatings such as HYDRECT and SunStar DFC OPV/Coating, designed to enhance paperboard applications. These solutions enable the production of lunch boxes, pizza boxes, and paper cups with water- and oil-resistant properties, as well as effective sealing performance, all while maintaining full recyclability.

The facility operates in accordance with the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) food safety management system and aims to achieve an annual production capacity of 1,000 tonnes of coatings by fiscal year 2030 (FY30). Serving markets across Asia, including China and Oceania, it is strategically positioned to function as a regional export base, with DIC also considering future expansion opportunities.

The facility is equipped with advanced features, including air showers, high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter dusters, and antibacterial flooring, to ensure the safety and quality of materials intended for direct food contact. It has also been certified for compliance with Indonesia’s halal regulations and operates in accordance with the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

DIC’s high-performance coatings support the development of recyclable monomaterial packaging by being compatible with a wide range of substrates, enabling more efficient and sustainable recycling solutions.

The new facility marks the DIC Group’s first entry into coating production in Asia outside of Japan, reflecting a significant step in its regional growth strategy. This initiative aligns with the DIC Vision 2030 long-term management plan, which prioritizes advancing the circular economy as a core commitment to sustainability. In line with this vision, the group is also broadening its portfolio of sustainable packaging materials to meet the evolving needs of next-generation markets.

The investment in this new facility allows the group to introduce high-performance products, originally developed in the US, Europe, and Japan, to customers across Asia and Oceania.
