U.S. semiconductor manufacturer Coherent Corp. has inaugurated its third facility in Vietnam, located in Nhon Trach Industrial Park, Dong Nai Province, with an initial investment of USD 127 million. The plant will produce precision-engineered materials and photonics components for applications ranging from smartphones and electric vehicles to advanced medical devices.
The new site is part of Coherent’s broader investment plan in Vietnam, which includes three high-tech projects in Nhon Trach industrial parks with nearly USD 1 billion in registered capital. These projects span silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor production, advanced optics, and metrology, testing, and semiconductor component manufacturing (M-Cubed), with annual production value expected to exceed USD 1.2 billion.
Coherent first entered Vietnam in 2005 with a manufacturing facility in the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park 1 (VSIP1) in Binh Duong, followed by a northern facility in Bac Ninh’s Yen Phong Industrial Park in 2019. The Dong Nai site underscores the company’s long-term commitment to Vietnam as a strategic manufacturing hub.
At the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung called on Coherent to expand investment into higher value-added stages of the semiconductor value chain and to prioritise workforce development. He emphasised the importance of collaboration with local universities and research institutes to strengthen Vietnam’s innovation ecosystem and enhance its role in global semiconductor supply chains.
