Broadband and technology provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. announced that an Asia-Pacific subsea cable system has reached Philippine shores, supporting the country’s digital transformation and regional trade integration. The Philippine branch is now linked to the 20,000-kilometer Bifrost Cable System via a landing point in Davao.
Converge owns and operates the Davao International Cable Landing Station, where the cable connects to the company’s broader network infrastructure. The Bifrost Cable System, with a capacity of up to 15 terabits per second, will link the Philippines to Singapore, Indonesia, Guam, and the west coast of the United States. The project is developed by a consortium that includes Meta, PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia International, Keppel T&T, and Amazon.
Converge reached an agreement with Keppel Midgard Holdings in 2021 and has invested at least PHP 5 billion, or approximately USD 85 million, for the Philippine branch. CEO Dennis Anthony Uy said the project will open new trade pathways, enhance cross-border data flows, and position the Philippines as a key player in the digital economy. He noted that Davao could become a major telecommunications hub, attracting investments and supporting regional economic growth.
The system is expected to support hyperscalers, data centers, and enterprise clients, offering low-latency connectivity for digital services. Converge plans to spend up to PHP 25 billion, or about USD 425 million, in 2025 on network expansion, including the Bifrost and the Southeast Asia Hainan-Hong Kong Express Cable System, which landed in 2024 in La Union.
