PT Pertamina Power Indonesia (PII) has signed a non-binding term sheet with Dutch thin-film PV specialist HyET Solaris Netherlands to collaborate on manufacturing lightweight and flexible solar products in Indonesia. The partnership focuses on transferring HyET Solaris’ Luxifoli thin-film PV technology for large-scale production, starting with a pilot factory boasting an annual capacity of 50 MW. This modular production line will serve as a stepping stone for potential expansion to a 1 GW per year facility, depending on the pilot’s outcomes.
The initiative highlights Indonesia’s strategic position, as approximately 90% of the raw materials needed for Luxifoli production are available locally, positioning the country as a competitive regional hub for advanced PV technologies. Data from the pilot phase will evaluate the economic viability of scaling up, with plans to potentially form a joint venture granting exclusive commercial licensing for manufacturing and supplying these products across Southeast Asia.
Investment for the pilot factory is estimated at EUR 65.4 million (IDR 1.29 trillion), subject to a detailed feasibility study. Netherlands-based impact investor Invest International has expressed interest through a letter of intent, supporting the collaboration. Discussions on equity structure and ownership will continue in the next phase, aiming to advance Indonesia’s renewable energy manufacturing capabilities amid growing global demand for flexible solar solutions.
