Singapore and Japan announced in March that they have signed an Energy, Sustainability and Climate Change Cooperation Framework aimed at deepening collaboration in the energy sector and supporting a shared transition towards net-zero emissions. The agreement focuses on strengthening cooperation across a range of areas, including cross-border electricity imports, low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia, carbon capture technologies, civil nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, and advanced energy systems.
The framework will facilitate closer coordination between the two countries through policy exchanges, business collaboration, financial cooperation, and the harmonisation of standards and regulations. It aims to encourage industry players and financial institutions from both countries to invest in and develop low-carbon energy solutions and supporting infrastructure.
This collaboration builds on existing bilateral ties in sustainability and energy transition, positioning both countries to advance cleaner energy pathways, strengthen energy resilience, and support the development of new technologies and supply chains in the region.
