Global medical technology firm Becton, Dickinson and Co. (BD) is expanding its footprint in the Philippines, aiming to supply more hospitals with its diagnostic and treatment solutions while investing in local healthcare training. The move signals growing opportunities for international medtech companies in the Philippine market.
Liang Lu, BD’s Country General Manager and Managing Director for Southeast Asia and Pakistan, said the company plans to improve nationwide coverage through direct operations and distributor partnerships, both in Metro Manila and regional areas.
The company sees strong growth potential in areas such as breast and cervical cancer screening, chemotherapy support tools, and treatments for peripheral venous and arterial disease. “These are areas where we can create real value for patients and providers,” Lu said.
BD also plans to address systemic gaps in the Philippine healthcare sector by investing in clinical education and training in partnership with leading hospitals and medical professionals. This aligns with the country’s ongoing healthcare reforms under the Universal Healthcare Act and rising public health expenditure—currently 5.9% of GDP.
