During London Tech Week 2025, Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs explored opportunities for collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI) with the United Kingdom. As part of the visit, the Deputy Minister held discussions with the UK’s Director General of Digital Technologies and Telecommunications at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, focusing on the exchange of experiences and best practices in digital technology development.
The discussions focused on developing AI infrastructure, enhancing digital talent training, and establishing adaptive regulatory frameworks to support the safe, ethical, and beneficial use of AI. Delegates from both countries also exchanged priorities and initiatives aimed at fostering an inclusive AI ecosystem.
The UK emphasized its commitment to artificial intelligence by investing over one billion euros across four years in AI computing research and the development of large-scale data centers. In parallel, Indonesia outlined its priorities, which include constructing data centers, advancing AI chip development, and strengthening computational capacity through cross-sector collaboration.
Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to developing digital talent through ongoing training programs and educational initiatives, aiming to produce nine million skilled professionals by 2030. The UK, in turn, highlighted its comprehensive efforts to promote technological interest among schoolchildren, support postgraduate education through funding for master’s and PhD programs, and offer upskilling programs for the existing workforce to adapt to AI-driven shifts in the labor market. Both countries also underscored the importance of establishing robust AI governance frameworks to ensure the safe and ethical deployment of artificial intelligence.
