Indonesia and the United Kingdom Forge Partnership to Strengthen Cybersecurity Cooperation

November 2025

The Indonesian government has established a new partnership with the United Kingdom to enhance national cybersecurity and bolster the country’s digital resilience amid growing cyber threats, supporting Indonesia’s ongoing digital transformation efforts.

The Indonesian Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs underscored that cybersecurity serves as the backbone of the nation’s digital sovereignty and a cornerstone of economic stability. He made the statement during a meeting with the UK’s Deputy Ambassador to Indonesia at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology office in Jakarta, according to a press release issued last October.

Partnering with a nation with advanced expertise in the digital sector is seen as a strategic move to strengthen Indonesia’s cybersecurity capabilities. He emphasized that the 2024 hacking incident targeting the Temporary National Data Center serves as a critical reminder of the need to establish robust protection standards across all digital infrastructure.

The government is drafting a cybersecurity bill to ensure that all strategic digital infrastructure across both the public and private sectors is equipped with adequate protection systems. The UK Deputy Ambassador welcomed this initiative, describing the partnership as strategically important for both nations. He noted that the rise of evolving cyber threats presents broader opportunities for collaboration and emphasized the UK’s readiness to support Indonesia’s digital agenda through knowledge sharing, capacity-building programs, and technological cooperation in the cybersecurity sector.
