Indonesian Navy Chooses French Company for Advanced Unmanned Mine Countermeasure Systems

July 2025

Exail, a French company specializing in advanced maritime robotics and autonomous systems, will supply the Indonesian Navy with a next-generation Unmanned Mine Countermeasures (MCM) System. Under the agreement, Exail will deliver four Inspector 90 Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) along with Seascan and K-Ster systems for mine identification and disposal. These technologies will serve as the core of a fully integrated unmanned MCM capability, to be deployed from two recently commissioned motherships, KRI Pulau Fani and KRI Pulau Fanildo.

The Head of Exail’s Maritime Systems division stated that this latest contract underscores the effectiveness of Exail’s modular Mine Countermeasure (MCM) solution, UMIS, which is engineered to meet the specific operational requirements of individual navies. Its adaptable design allows for scalable, high-performance unmanned systems capable of supporting a broad spectrum of mine warfare missions. This selection, demonstrating yet another customized configuration, further solidifies Exail’s role as a leading contributor to the future of naval mine countermeasures.

The Inspector 90 USVs and accompanying mine disposal systems will be remotely operated from the motherships and centrally managed through Exail’s integrated Command and Control (C2) system. This unified system, powered by the Umisoft software suite and installed in each vessel’s combat information center, facilitates seamless execution of mine sweeping and hunting operations. Umisoft supports comprehensive mission planning, real-time monitoring, multi-system coordination, and in-depth post-mission analysis, enabling a highly efficient and data-driven approach to mine countermeasures.
