Indonesia’s Pertamina Partners with Dutch Group for Renewable Energy Innovation

October 2025

Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE), the renewable energy subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Netherlands-based HyET Group to advance renewable energy development in Indonesia through technological innovation.

The cooperation encompasses several key areas, including the identification of opportunities to implement HyET’s technologies in Indonesia, the development of pilot projects, knowledge transfer and capacity building initiatives, and the establishment of commercialization pathways to accelerate the adoption of renewable technologies. The MoU was signed by the CEOs of Pertamina NRE and HyET Group on the sidelines of the Indonesia–Europe Business Forum, held from September 2 to 9, 2025.

Pertamina NRE highlighted the importance of forging partnerships with leading global players to drive knowledge transfer, technology adoption, and human capital development. The company seeks to work with reputable partners possessing strong expertise in renewable energy, aiming not only to enhance its own capabilities but also to contribute to Indonesia’s broader energy transition agenda. In addition to its renewable power generation initiatives, Pertamina NRE is advancing projects in low-emission hydrogen, bioethanol-based biofuels, carbon management, and other low-carbon solutions.

The Netherlands-based HyET Group, known for its cutting-edge renewable energy and hydrogen technologies, is setting its sights on Indonesia as a major growth market. The company specializes in advanced solar panels, energy-efficient electrolysis, lithium batteries, and blue and green hydrogen production.

HyET Group’s CEO said Indonesia offers potential for renewable energy development. He added that by combining HyET’s technological expertise with Pertamina NRE’s regional strength, the collaboration aims to deliver impactful solutions that support the energy transition in Indonesia and across Southeast Asia.
