Speaking at an economic symposium organized by the Malaysian Parliament on 26 July, the deputy secretary-general (macro) of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MEA) said that the 12th Malaysia Five Year Plan (12MP), covering the period from 2020 to 2025, will focus on “shared prosperity”, covering three dimensions – economic empowerment, Environmental sustainability, and social re-engineering.
Under the social re-engineering dimension, the government aims to enhance social capital, inclusivity, and social cohesion. The government will collect feedback from stakeholders through 13 inter-agency planning groups in the federal and state governments and 46 technical working groups involving the public and private sectors were established as platforms to gather feedback.
Additionally, 180 focus groups were established to obtain feedback not only from the public and private sectors but also from civil society. The feedback from these focus groups will be used to prepare 32 strategy papers in support of the 12MP document, which is expected to be tabled to Parliament in the third quarter of 2020.
