North Vietnamese Province to Create USD 36 Million High-Tech Farming zone

September 2019

Dam Ha District in Quang Ninh Province in Vietnam will welcome a USD 36 million, 170 hectare high-tech farming zone, which will be used for research and development of technology in the seafood industry, particularly for shrimp production. Other focus areas include providing fish breeds, developing fishery farming technology and supporting industries, as well as personnel training.

The zone will be funded by the provincial budget and the Viet-Uc Seafood Corp, a state-owned enterprise based in Binh Thuan Province, that will also act as the zone’s developer and strategic investor, managing more than 100 hectares of the zone. The zone will have a three-phase development trajectory, starting in 2020, implementing the second phase during 2021-2023 and finishing the third phase in 2024 – 2025.

The high-tech zone is part of larger national masterplan for ten high-tech agricultural zones by 2030 to improve food security and ensure sustainable farming.  The government is relying on countries such as Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and Israel for farming technology and training. Several high tech farming parks have been approved, including in Hau Giang and Phu Yen, eight in Ho Chi Minh City, the northern provinces of Thai Nguyen and Quang Ninh, the central provinces of Thanh Hoa and Khanh Hoa, the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, and southern Bình Duong and Can Tho City. Impact assessment studies will be conducted in Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Son La, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Nghe An, Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Tien Giang, by 2030 to understand the impact of the program.
