Opella Advances Sustainability and Healthcare Innovation in Vietnam

September 2025

Opella, the world’s third-largest consumer self-care company, is positioning Vietnam at the heart of its global sustainability and healthcare agenda. Marking its launch as a standalone company in May 2025, Opella builds on more than 70 years of operations in Vietnam, where it operates a manufacturing site and its only R&D centre in Asia. These facilities reflect its long-term commitment to sustainable growth in the country, in line with EU investment trends under the EU – Vietnam Free Trade Agreement.

In Vietnam, Opella has embedded global sustainability goals into tangible actions. Its Ho Chi Minh City site has been powered entirely by renewable energy and landfill-free since 2023. The company is also reducing single-use plastics, increasing recycled materials, and advancing water stewardship through wastewater reuse and rainwater harvesting. These measures support Vietnam’s Net Zero 2050 target while strengthening Opella’s competitive positioning in sustainable healthcare.

On the societal front, Opella collaborates with government and healthcare partners to promote health literacy, strengthen the healthcare workforce, and support community wellbeing through initiatives such as the School Hygiene Project. With healthcare projected to become one of the top three household spending categories by 2025, Opella’s R&D efforts are focused on delivering products and digital tools that meet rising consumer demand for accessible, responsible self-care.

Looking forward, Opella aims to achieve net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions at its Vietnam site by 2027, expand renewable energy use, and scale healthcare access programmes. The company’s recent B Corp Certification underscores its ambition to set new benchmarks for social, environmental, and ethical business performance in Vietnam and beyond.
