On 2 May, PerkinsElmer opened its largest manufacturing facility for analytical instrumentation in Singapore at JTC MedTech Hub, a dedicated facility for medical technology manufacturers and service providers.
Massachusetts headquartered PerkinsElmer produces analytical instruments, genetic testing and diagnostic tools, medical imaging components, software, instruments, and consumables for multiple end markets. The new facility in Singapore serves as a global manufacturing site for the Company’s detection and analytical instruments, specializing in a variety of advanced applications, including atomic absorption, mass spectrometry and gas chromatography. The site also houses two demonstration laboratories in which customers can have hands-on experience with PerkinElmer’s technologies. Employees at this facility handle a variety of functions including manufacturing, sales, service, IT, finance customer care, logistics, compliance and order management.
PerkinElmer first established its presence in Singapore in 1997 and currently has a total of more than 340 employees across two locations. Approximately 320 employees are located at the JTC MedTech Hub facility, which offers solutions to research professionals and laboratories in the environmental, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, petrochemical, life sciences and clinical diagnostics markets.
Speaking at the launch, Dr Koh Poh Koon, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Trade and Industry, highlighted Singapore’s strengths as a MedTech hub. Singapore hosts around 60 leading multinational MedTech firms, and over 240 healthcare start-ups, with capabilities in areas such as digital pathology, diagnostic imaging, and cardiovascular implants. The city’s MedTech manufacturing sector provided about 14,700 jobs and generated USD 9 billion in total manufacturing output in 2017. Six out of 10 top global manufacturers of life science tools and instruments are present in Singapore.
