Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), Malaysia’s state-owned utility firm, has expanded its strategic collaboration with Microsoft through a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at supporting the growth of Malaysia’s AI-enabled economy and ecosystem. The partnership focuses on fostering a robust local AI ecosystem and advancing economic and societal benefits through AI adoption, especially leveraging Microsoft’s newly launched Malaysia West cloud region.
Key areas of collaboration include the deployment of cutting-edge technologies such as Agentic AI, Microsoft Copilot, data analytics, cloud computing, and cybersecurity to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability across Petronas’s value chain. The initiative also emphasizes sustainable energy innovation and policy alignment across industries, aiming to promote cleaner, smarter energy production in line with Malaysia’s broader energy transition efforts.
Petronas’s Senior Vice President of Projects, Technology & Health, Safety, Security & Environment, Ir Ts Mohd Yusri Mohamed Yusof, stressed that this collaboration exemplifies meaningful innovation that benefits the nation and supports Malaysia’s ambition to build a thriving AI economy with an inclusive ecosystem.
