Singapore Deepens Regional Green Trade Links with India Through Eco-Labelling Pact

September 2025

Singapore has strengthened its regional sustainability leadership with a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Singapore Environment Council (SEC) and India’s CII GreenPro certification programme. Signed at the GreenPro Summit 2025 in Chennai, the agreement positions Singapore as a key partner in advancing eco-labelling and sustainable procurement across Asia. It aligns with Singapore’s Green Plan 2030 goals by promoting the use of verified eco-friendly products within and beyond the city-state.

Under the MoU, Singapore and India will work toward mutual recognition of green product certifications, allowing goods certified under SEC’s eco-label to gain easier market access in India and other regional markets. This reduces administrative barriers for Singaporean exporters and creates new opportunities for local companies to showcase their environmental credentials across a fast-growing economy.

The partnership is expected to be a gateway for Singaporean businesses to tap into India’s expanding market for green products. With over 11,500 items already certified under GreenPro, Singapore companies can collaborate with Indian counterparts, expand sustainable supply chains, and meet the rising demand for environmentally responsible goods and services. It also supports Singapore’s strategy to be a regional hub for green technology and standards.

By linking eco-labelling systems, SEC and CII are helping to set common benchmarks that will make sustainable trade more efficient and credible across Asia. This cooperation also supports the broader aim of lowering carbon footprints and fostering innovation in green manufacturing and procurement.
