Suntech, a Chinese producer of solar panels, announced the launch of its 500 MW high-efficiency integrated PV cell and module manufacturing project in Indonesia, making available solar modules for customers in the US and Indonesia. The plant’s annual capacity is currently 500 MW of cells and 500 MW of modules with the plan to expand to 1 GW by the end of 2020.
The Indonesian power plant is located in Batam, which is only 30 nautical miles away from Singapore. With a geographical and logistics cost advantage, Suntech is able to continue to support its customers and boost sales in the US.
Recently, Suntech was able to reach a total module capacity of 9.5 GW after an expansion in Wuxi and Changzhou in China. With the operation of the Indonesian plant, Suntech reached a breakthrough capacity of 10 GW.
