Thailand Launches AI Police Robot with Facial Recognition

May 2025

The Royal Thai Police (RTP) has introduced the country’s first artificial intelligence (AI) police robot, deployed in Nakhon Pathom province during the Songkran festival. The robot, named “Pol Col Nakhonpathom Plod Phai,” meaning “Nakhon Pathom is safe,” was positioned at the Tonson Road festival site in Muang district with the aim of supporting public safety efforts.

Known as “AI Police Cyborg 1.0,” the robot was developed through cooperation between the Provincial Police Region 7, Nakhon Pathom Provincial Police, and the local municipality. It features 360-degree smart AI cameras and processes real-time footage collected from both CCTV and drone surveillance in the area. This information is transmitted to the province’s Command and Control Center, allowing for more coordinated public safety management during large gatherings.

The AI system within the robot is capable of performing multiple security-related tasks. These include facial recognition for identifying wanted or high-risk individuals and issuing alerts to officers when such persons are detected. It also tracks suspects across event areas using facial data and can locate individuals based on clothing, body type, gender, or facial features.

Additional features include the ability to detect weapons and recognize items such as knives, sticks, or similar objects. The system is also designed to identify aggressive or disruptive behavior, including fighting or physical assaults.

This initiative reflects a growing trend in the use of AI and robotics in public safety, particularly during large-scale events. The robot represents a pilot step in integrating such technologies into law enforcement in Thailand.
