Thailand’s Aerothai to Upgrade Its Air Traffic Management Systems

February 2026

Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Ltd (Aerothai) has announced a three‑year investment plan worth THB 1.4 billion (about USD 38 million) to upgrade the country’s air traffic management systems from 2025 through 2027. The plan aims to support expansion at major international airports and improve the safety and efficiency of flight operations.

Under the plan, Aerothai will install modern radar and multilateration systems at key airports, including Suvarnabhumi, Chiang Mai, and Phuket. The upgrades will include digital and remote tower systems that allow controllers to manage air traffic with enhanced surveillance capabilities and better situational awareness. These systems are intended to support future increases in flight volume and improve coordination between ground operations and aircraft, contributing to safer airspace management.

Aerothai’s investment will also extend to satellite‑based aircraft tracking technologies. These technologies can help maintain more accurate flight monitoring and support smoother navigation across Thailand’s airspace, which is expected to handle increasing demand as airport capacity expands.

The upgrade plan aligns with broader efforts to strengthen Thailand’s aviation infrastructure and position the country as a regional aviation hub. Enhanced air traffic control is seen as a necessary complement to airport expansion projects and runway developments that are underway or planned at major airports.

The investment is financed through Aerothai’s internal resources and partners, and it does not involve direct state guarantees. The improvements to air traffic management systems are expected to support more efficient flight operations and bolster confidence among airlines and passengers as Thailand’s aviation sector grows.
