UAE’s EDGE Group Expands Collaboration with Malaysia’s Ketech Asia on CAR 816 Rifle

March 2025

UAE-based EDGE Group has expanded its collaboration with Malaysian defense firm Ketech Asia, an advanced ammunition manufacturer and firearms solutions provider, to enhance the production of the CAR 816 assault rifle in Malaysia through its small arms division, CARACAL. This initiative marks a significant step forward following a 2023 reseller agreement, which enabled technology transfer (ToT).

Under the latest agreement, Ketech Asia will manufacture the entire CAR 816 system, including key components, at its Malaysian facility. The expanded collaboration will also explore the potential co-development of new firearms, aligning with Malaysia’s efforts to modernize its armed forces and strengthen local defense manufacturing capabilities. The initiative is expected to enhance Malaysia’s defense industry while supporting the broader Southeast Asian market.

In addition to its partnership with Ketech Asia, EDGE Group is expanding its global footprint through a new collaboration with GM Defense, a subsidiary of General Motors. This agreement, signed under EDGE’s NIMR Automotive division, focuses on developing light tactical vehicle solutions for markets in the Middle East, Africa, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Announced during IDEX 2025, these strategic partnerships reaffirm EDGE’s commitment to supporting regional modernization initiatives and fostering long-term cooperation with local defense industries.
