Vietjet Invests USD 100 Million in MRO Facility at Long Thanh Airport to Strengthen Aviation Infrastructure

September 2025

Vietjet has broken ground on a USD 100 million maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Long Thanh International Airport, marking a major step forward in Vietnam’s aviation infrastructure development. Designed to accommodate up to ten aircraft simultaneously, the facility will include two modern hangars and provide comprehensive services for both narrowbody and widebody fleets. The project is expected to not only boost Vietjet’s operational efficiency but also enhance the country’s capacity to support a rapidly growing aviation market.

The new MRO center will primarily serve Vietjet’s expanding fleet, while also offering services to other domestic and international carriers. By reducing reliance on third-party providers and capturing external business, Vietjet aims to strengthen its long-term competitiveness and establish Vietnam as a hub for aircraft maintenance in the region. This development reflects the airline’s wider growth strategy, which has seen it consistently exceed profit targets and secure major fleet expansion agreements.

The investment comes at a time of intensifying competition in the regional MRO market. Vietnam Airlines, together with Korean Air, has recently reinforced its presence in the sector, underlining the opportunities and challenges ahead for Vietjet. Navigating regulatory approvals and sustaining large-scale capital investment will be essential for the success of the new facility.

Long Thanh International Airport, located near Ho Chi Minh City, is scheduled to begin operations in 2026 and will become Vietnam’s largest aviation hub. Vietjet’s MRO facility will be integral to the airport’s ecosystem, ensuring maintenance capabilities are in place to support the surge in traffic expected once the new gateway opens. The project underscores Vietnam’s ambition to modernize its aviation infrastructure and position itself as a competitive player in Asia’s fast-growing air transport market.
