Vietnam Airlines is planning to build an aviation logistics center in the southern city of Can Tho on 27 hectares of land. The center will be located next to Can Tho International Airport.
Around USD 82.9 million will be invested in the project, which will be divided into three phases from 2019-2024. The center will play the role of role of cargo terminal and provider of leasing space and goods distribution.
In addition, as Can Tho is a key economic area of Mekong Delta, Vietnam Airlines will open more routes from Can Tho to other provinces in Vietnam as well as foreign countries. Can Tho is an existing export hub, with an annual export volume of around 800,000 tons of rice and 170,000 tons of aquatic products. 70-80% of the export volume is transported to Ho Chi Minh City and southeast provinces before shipping to other places. Can Tho particularly has export volume per year is around 800,000 tons of rice and 170,000 tons of aquatic products.
This aviation logistics center is expected to reduce overload at Tan Son Nhat and Long Thanh international airports, besides promoting the development for logistics services in the region and bolster sales of local seafood and agro-products in areas in the country.
