A delegation from 108 Military Central Hospital (Hospital 108) in Hanoi, led by Director – Major General Dr. Le Huu Song, visited the UK from 10 to 13 June to enhance medical collaborations. During their trip, they met with leading institutions, including the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS), the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine, and the Vietnam-UK Business Association (VBUK).
The delegation explored the establishment of a surgical training centre at Hospital 108, modeled on the RCS’s successful framework. Hospital 108 is already an official RCS member, which allows it to adopt international surgical training standards. They also discussed opportunities for student exchange, postgraduate training, and joint medical research with the University of Cambridge.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with VBUK was signed to advance technology transfer, hospital management, medical tourism, and research opportunities at Hospital 108. Dr. Song expressed the hospital’s vision to adopt new medical techniques annually through such partnerships, improving both the hospital’s capabilities and Vietnam’s healthcare system.
The visit also marked significant progress toward strengthening ties with UK medical institutions, aiming to standardize surgical qualifications in Vietnam and expand training for young Vietnamese doctors. The collaboration offers potential for enhanced medical services in Vietnam through initiatives like the hospital’s “Healthy and Beautiful Homeland” program.
