Orissa International undertook a study for a UK regional trade agency, examining the import, distribution, and retail dynamics for whisky in Singapore. Employing both secondary research and direct engagement with local market players, our team conducted store checks and held interviews with multiple local distributors to construct an accurate pricing ladder, mapping out wholesale, distributor, and retail mark-ups. The study delved into key market entry conditions, evaluating supply chain structures, pricing margins at each distribution stage, and specific regulatory requirements related to labelling, packaging, and excise duties. Additionally, we examined promotional practices within the market, focusing on common approaches to brand support and visibility strategies employed by distributors and suppliers. This analysis was delivered in a PowerPoint presentation, supplemented by Excel dataset, offering the client a clear roadmap to navigate pricing strategies and regulatory hurdles, ultimately supporting their strategic decision-making in Singapore’s whisky market.
