Akzonobel Invests in a Green Manufacturing Plant

August 2020

Dutch multinational company AkzoNobel has expanded its site in Vietnam, which includes a green manufacturing plant for marine and protective coatings as well as adhesive coatings, with the implementation of a range of innovative sustainability features. On July 30, AkzoNobel, which is a global leader for paints and coatings, officially started the construction of the expansion of its Amata site as part of its continuous investment in technology and capacity. The sustainability features include solar power generation infrastructure (solar panel installations), rain water harvesting systems, solvent recovery systems, and high elimination of raw material packaging scraps through raw material bulk management processes and systems.

AkzoNobel’s site in Amata was launched in 2011 as a strategic industrial wood coatings manufacturing site to supply coatings to manufacturers throughout South East Asia. The site facilitates other segments of AkzoNobel’s performance coatings, including coil coatings for the steel structure industry.

The construction of the adhesives plant has been completed and the facility is now ready for production.  The marine and protective coatings plant is expected to be completed and to start production in January 2021. The expanded site will be a comprehensive multi-coatings manufacturing site with state-of-the-art technology, allowing for the real time monitoring of the manufacturing system and automated recipe control.
