Global Food Partners (GFP) have launched a collaboration with Vencomatic to develop a model farm in Indonesia with the goal of furthering cage-free egg production in the nation and across Asia. GFP is a Singapore-based consulting company with expertise in the production of cage-free eggs, while Vencomatic has capability in designing and producing poultry housing systems.
Earlier in June 2021, GFP has also collaborated with The Faculty of Animal Science at The University of Gadjah Mada and Aeres University of Applied Sciences to establish a cage-free egg training center at the University’s Bulaksumur Yogyakarta campus in East Java.
Under this partnership, Vencomatic will provide a cage-free housing system by supplying equipment to cater to the layer hens’ natural behaviors and instincts. The equipment ranges from nests, flooring, and perches to infrastructure that will be home to about 3,000 birds. The company will also supply bird specialists that will support the maintenance.
The model farm is slated to be opened around the end of 2021. It will serve as an example of best practice housing and management for cage-free egg production to smoothen the region’s transition to cage-free systems.
