GE Vernova To Supply Electric Propulsion Systems for Singapore Navy’s Multi-Role Combat Vessel Program.

April 2024

GE Vernova’s Power Conversion business has secured a contract with ST Engineering Marine Limited to provide Integrated Full Electric Propulsion (IFEP) systems for the Republic of Singapore Navy’s new Multi-Role Combat Vessel (MRCV) program. This program involves the construction of six ships that will utilize electric propulsion to replace the older mechanically driven Victory-class missile corvettes in service since 1989. The delivery of these systems is scheduled over the next decade.

The IFEP systems will enhance the operational efficiency of the ships by supplying power not only for propulsion but also for critical systems like radar and communications. This electric grid configuration allows for optimized power distribution across various ship systems, improving energy efficiency and operational cost-effectiveness. Additionally, the new ships will feature a modular design capable of supporting various naval missions and hosting unmanned vehicles, thus extending their surveillance capabilities.

GE Vernova’s expertise in marine and naval technology will be central to the design, engineering, manufacturing, and testing of the IFEP equipment. The Power Conversion UK business unit will handle these tasks, with additional support from the Power Conversion Asia team in Singapore, who will manage project engineering, project management, commissioning, and sea trials.
