IJM Constructions Awarded Contract for East Coast Rail Link Project

IJM Construction, a wholly-owned subsidiary of IJM Corp Bhd, a Malaysia-based leading infrastructure, property, manufacturing, and plantations company has been awarded a contract for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project in Temerloh, Pahang, Malaysia.
The value of the contract was worth MYR 258 million (USD 60.9 million) and was given by China Communications Construction, which is part of the China Communications Construction Group (CCCG). The mega project which is to be developed by companies from both countries aimed at linking key cities and towns on Malaysia’s east and west coasts, thus improving mobility locally, regionally, and worldwide.
The ECRL project, which runs from Gemas to Johor Bahru across a length of 191.14 kilometers is an electrified double-tracking meter-gauge railway. It runs from east to west across Peninsular Malaysia, linking Wakaf Bharu in Kelantan and Port Klang in Selangor. IJM Construction will be responsible for the construction of the Sungai Pahang bridge’s substructure and partial superstructure.
This includes Section 6 of the project which comprises T-Beam manufacture as well as the installation of the bridge and additional bridges. The project’s construction is set to begin at the end of August 2021, and will be completed in 24 months.
The outstanding order book of IJM’s Construction Division was relatively healthy at around MYR 4 billion (USD 967 million) as of March 31, 2021. Some of the core projects undertaken by IJM include the MYR 89.8 million (USD 21.7 million) contract for infrastructure building and public spaces at the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) in Kuala Lumpur and the MYR 237.8 million (USD 57 million) contract of The Light City in Gelugor, Penang.
