Indonesia and Switzerland Deepen Collaboration on Sustainable Infrastructure Development

November 2025

Indonesia and Switzerland have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in infrastructure development, aligning with Indonesia’s “Indonesia Emas 2045” vision. The agreement, signed between Swiss MEM and the Indonesian Electricity Society (MKI) at the Innovative Solutions in Infrastructure Development forum last October, underscores both nations’ commitment to advancing sustainable, inclusive infrastructure.

The Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development emphasized that infrastructure extends beyond constructing roads and ports; it serves as a vital connector among people, a tool to reduce regional disparities, and a catalyst for new economic opportunities.

The Minister underscored the crucial role of international collaboration, particularly with Switzerland, in driving the transition toward green, resilient, and inclusive infrastructure. He noted that partnerships with global stakeholders are essential to advancing sustainable development, and identified five priority sectors with strong potential for joint initiatives: sustainable energy, green and smart cities, low-carbon transportation, water and waste management, and blue economy infrastructure.

In response, the Vice President and Federal Council Member of the Swiss Confederation welcomed Indonesia’s commitment to expanding avenues for cooperation, viewing the Swiss delegation’s participation in the forum as a stepping stone toward a deeper strategic partnership. He also emphasized the need for a clear and robust legal framework to strengthen economic relations between the two nations.

The forum brought together representatives from more than 150 Swiss companies currently operating in Indonesia, whose contributions to job creation, technology transfer, and innovation continue to play a significant role across various strategic sectors.
