Indonesia Aspires to be the Global Hub of Muslim Fashion

January 2024

According to Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade, the Southeast Asian country is set to emerge as the global center for Muslim fashion in 2024, aligning with its ongoing initiatives to promote Indonesian halal products worldwide. The Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade announced that an official declaration will soon be made, affirming Indonesia’s position as one the world’s emerging fashion centers.

The Ministry of Trade underscored ongoing efforts with Bank of Indonesia and Ministry of Cooperation and SMEs to globally promote Muslim fashion. Initiatives include encouraging domestic participation in prestigious fashion events like the New York Fashion Week, the Paris Fashion Week, the London Fashion Week, and the Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week. The Ministry further stressed Indonesia’s commitment to tap into the global market by strategically targeting key segments, capitalizing on the presence of Indonesian Muslim fashion on renowned World Fashion Week platforms.

As per the Ministry’s statistics, Indonesia’s exports in the Muslim fashion sector amounted to USD 2.85 billion in the initial half of 2022, marking a 39.86% surge compared to the corresponding period in the preceding year. Indonesia’s sector has considerable room for growth, as the country holds the 13th position worldwide among the largest exporters of Muslim fashion.
