The Indonesian government is to continue developing 89 new projects amid the COVID-19 pandemic, worth USD 94.8 billion from 2020-2024. These projects are additional to the existing 223 national strategic projects.
The breakdown of 89 new projects is as follows: 15 road and bridge projects, 13 dams and irrigation systems, 13 border infrastructure projects, 12 energy projects, 6 railway projects, 6 clean water projects, 5 airports, 5 seaports, 5 industrial zones, 3 technology projects, 3 smelters, 1 seawall, 1 waste management project and 1 land procurement project in Central Kalimantan.
The country also has several projects that have been earmarked for continued development. They are:
“Super priority” tourist destinations: Labuan Bajo (East Nusa Tenggara), Borobudur (Central Java), Likupang (North Sulawesi), Lake Toba (North Sumatra) and Mandalika (West Nusa Tenggara).
Toll road projects planned to break ground in 2020: 14-kilometer section 4 of Banda Aceh-Sigli toll road, the 33 km sections I and V of the Balikpapan-Samarinda toll road and 131 km Pekanbaru-Dumai toll road.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indonesian government is committed to further the development of the projects while adhering to relevant health protocols. Between 2016 and 2019, the country has finished 92 out of the 144 planned infrastructure projects to be completed by 2020.
