October 2019

Thailand’s  Department of Industrial Works (DIW) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with New Energy Development Organization and Industrial Technology Japan (NEDO) to implement a demonstration high-tech project for recycling Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) in Thailand. A previous attempt for cooperation was made in 2015.

NEDO is Japan’s largest public management organization promoting research and development as well as deployment of industrial, Energy and Environmental technologies.

ABIZ Corporation and Hidayakago Enterprise have been selected to operate the project as a pilot project or a prototype of recycling of used electrical products business in Thailand.

Currently, Thailand has about 148 electronic recycling plants, which are inadequate to deal with the volume of electronic waste generated in Thailand. According to data from the Pollution Control Department, 414 billion tons of electronic waste was generated in Thailand in 2018 and the amount is expected to keep increasing.
