Thai space technology company mu Space has opened the first dedicated aerospace manufacturing facility in Southeast Asia. Measuring more than 2,200 square meters, the factory represents mu Space´s second and largest factory in Thailand. It has been built to develop, test, and manufacture satellite components and power systems for space and telecommunications applications, including low-earth orbit satellites.
The Thai startup was founded in 2017, and has participated in several test launches into space, with plans to build and test-launch satellites by the end of 2021, along with locally made GPS, robotic and autonomous testing systems for unmanned vehicles to be used on moon missions. In March 2021 it secured the highest incentives available from the Thailand Board of Investment in order to accelerate its growth.
mu Space is planning to build 11 gateway stations initially in Bangkok to operate a prospective low earth orbit satellite. The firm is also preparing to propose up to eight projects with NASA. In the past, the firm proposed projects such as Health Monitoring System in Space, a Precision Landing System, Dehumidifying Inner Gloves and an Inflatable Solar Array Structure. Moreover, in 2021 the Thai company signed an agreement with Airbus Defense and Space to cooperate on spacecraft and space technology.
