PAAB allocates MYR 1 Billion for Water Piping System

February 2023

Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd (PAAB) allocates approximately MYR 1 billion each year to maintain and upgrade water piping systems throughout Peninsular Malaysia, according to Abdul Hadi Ali, PAAB’s chief executive officer. This sum is distributed among the different state water supply companies and their respective annual business plans. (It should be noted that the states of Sabah, Sarawak, and Terengganu are not under PAAB’s jurisdiction.)

About MYR 600 million of the total is spent on replacing pipes. For example, Johor has received MYR 400 million, while Kelantan has been allocated MYR 200 million. Some states have focused on constructing water treatment plants and water tanks and have joined forces with PAAB to reduce non-revenue water.

Abdul Hadi revealed that the repair and upgrading work this year would be conducted in various states such as Johor, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor.

PAAB is a wholly owned company of the Minister of Finance Incorporated, managed by the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) and the Water Services Industry Act 2006. Its purpose is to help the federal government realize the National Water Services Industry Restructuring Plan and to develop water assets in the peninsula with a competitive financing rate.
