Institut Jantung Negara Sdn Bhd (IJN) plans to expand its reach by setting up cardiac centers outside Kuala Lumpur to improve healthcare access. IJN, which is also known as The National Heart Institute, will also be expanding its existing medical facility in Jalan Tun Razak.
IJN is currently at an advanced stage of negotiations for potential openings in Johor and Penang. A branch hospital may be operational as early as 2026. The setting up of branch hospitals to provide patients outside the city with greater access to its specialist care has been a long-term goal of the 30-year-old institution. It is in discussions with several interested parties, including state governments/agencies, to set up the hospitals.
IJN will also be setting up a chain of retail pharmacies. In February 2022, it launched its first store called IJN First Pharmacy, which is accessible to the public, at its current hospital. It plans to open two outlets in the Klang Valley in 2023 and one in Terengganu in 2024.
