Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) has initiated a USD 5.07 billion (SGD 6.8 billion) expansion project, slated for completion by 2030, aiming to enhance its appeal amid intensifying global tourism competition. The development will introduce two luxury hotels, adding 700 rooms to RWS’s existing six hotels, alongside a four-storey retail, entertainment, and dining complex spanning approximately 228,658 square feet. A waterfront promenade and an 88-meter-tall mountain-like structure featuring a scenic trail are also planned.
This expansion is part of the broader RWS 2.0 master plan, unveiled in 2019. The project aims to refresh RWS’s offerings amid intensifying global competition for tourists.
RWS plans to use low-carbon concrete for its structures, aiming to reduce embodied carbon by 29,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent, roughly equivalent to the electricity needed to power more than 15,000 four-room public housing flats for a year.
The investment reflects broader efforts to attract international visitors and stimulate economic growth. Singapore’s integrated resorts play a key role in tourism, contributing to job creation and business opportunities. With increasing competition in the regional hospitality sector, RWS’s expansion aligns with the country’s long-term plans to maintain its appeal as a top-tier destination in Asia.
