Sabah to Host New Aerospace Training Center

The state of Sabah in Malaysia will host the country’s first and only aircraft maintenance technician training center when the proposed MYR 25 million (USD 5.99 million) KKIP Aerospace Training Center at Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) starts running by mid 2020.

The training programs come with dual certifications from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The school will offer the EASA Part 147 approved course structure with 12 certificates of recognition leading to EASA Category A Aircraft Maintenance License.

The proposed center will cover 5 acres and has an initial investment value of MYR 35 million (USD 8.39 million). When operations begin its annual capacity will be an estimated 250 students. An agreement was also signed between KKIP Aerospace Sdn Bhd and AutoGyro GmbH for the purchase of an MYR 650,000 (USD 155.87) Cavalon 915 iS Aircraft.

It is hoped that the KKIP aerospace hub will attract further investment to MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) and Manufacturing of components and light aircraft assembly.
