Shopee Malaysia’s Various Partnerships Generate USD 240 Million in Sales

Malaysia’s largest online shopping platform, Shopee, has announced MYR 1 billion (USD 240 million) in sales in the country since the first movement control order (MCO) that started in March 2020.
Shopee’s Regional Managing Director Ian Ho stated that the successful outcome has been largely driven via strategic collaborations with varying ministries, governmental agencies, associations, and state governments. It has also supported the digitalization progress of over 100,000 local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
According to Mr Ho, despite Covid-19 accelerating the growth of the digital economy, Malaysia’s e-commerce contribution to total retail is estimated to be at only 7% in 2020.
Shopee plans to boost the economic recovery process of local companies especially MSMEs and petty traders. Its efforts to boost sales for these firms include providing special assistance to support sellers’ digitalization process and organizing additional campaigns and benefits by using discount and cashback vouchers, advertising credits, and others. Shopee has also partnered with various sellers and brands to provide free shipping, discounts, and vouchers during the monthly promotional period. It has utilized its logistics and payments systems as well as Shopee Live Stream and Shopee University classes for these companies.
