Singapore and Indonesia Strengthen Defense Ties with Joint Military and Cyber Defense Cooperation

August 2025

Singapore and Indonesia have agreed to strengthen their defense cooperation through joint military exercises across land, sea, and air operations. The initiative is aimed at improving military capabilities and deepening defense ties between the two countries. Beyond traditional cooperation, both sides are also exploring cyber defense, with Indonesia keen to learn from Singapore’s advanced expertise. Singapore’s Digital Intelligence Service (DIS), established in 2022 as a specialized cyber unit within its armed forces, plays an important role in this effort.

The cyber defense collaboration centers on sharing knowledge and building capacity to help Indonesia develop its national cyber defense infrastructure. Singapore’s investments in cybersecurity, including partnerships with international firms, serve as a model for Indonesia as it builds its own capabilities. The cooperation is expected to help both countries respond more effectively to digital threats and safeguard critical infrastructure.

This partnership reflects efforts to address regional security challenges amid rising geopolitical tensions. Both countries emphasize the need for dialogue and joint action to maintain stability. In addition to military and cybersecurity collaboration, Singapore and Indonesia continue to develop training facilities and conduct military exchanges to further strengthen their long-standing defense relationship.
