Singapore Firm to Develop Smart Grid for PTT in Thailand

March 2020

Envision Digital International Pte Ltd (Envision) has been chosen to develop the first smart grid for Thai state-owned oil and gas company, PTT Public Company (PTT). The project is the first of its kind in Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation (ECCi).

Envision is headquartered in Singapore with over 500 employees across ten offices in China, France, Norway, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States. It specializes in AIoT technology which combination of AI (artificial intelligence) and IoT (Internet-of things). On its website, it claims to manage over 63 million smart devices and 120 GW of Energy assets globally.

The smart grid will be powered by Envision Digital’s operating system (EnOS) and located at the Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology (VISTEC). The network will make use of floating solar panels, rooftop solar panels, Energy storage systems, and electric charging stations.

Targeted to be completed in 2020, this will be the first smart grid in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), a zone covering three eastern provinces of Thailand – Chonburi, Rayong, and Chachoengsao – which the government hopes to turn into a hub for technological Manufacturing. The grid is a pilot project, and PTT intends to build more smart grids in other locations across the country. The project is expected to help PTT achieve its 2020 strategic objective: zero increase of absolute emission growth rate. Moreover, the application of AIoT smart grid technology offers a lot of potential for other local Infrastructure operators, communities, and companies in terms of Energy efficiency and transition.
