Singapore’s Punggol Digital District Welcomes International Tech Players

July 2021

Singapore’s Punggol Digital District is positioning itself as the location of choice for technology companies. Four international companies have confirmed their plans to set up a base in Punggol Digital District, a move that will create about 2,000 tech jobs ranging from data analysts and solution engineers to artificial intelligence and blockchain developers.
Each of the four companies brings different expertise to the mix. They are Delta Electronics, which specializes in smart living solutions; robotics design company Boston Dynamics; cybersecurity services provider Group-IB; and Wanxiang, which offers blockchain solutions.
The master plan for the 50 ha Punggol Digital District was announced in 2018. The district will progressively open from 2024. When it is fully developed, it should generate some 28,000 digital economy jobs. The precinct is Singapore’s first smart business district, integrating residential districts, a business park, a university campus (Singapore Institute of Technology), community facilities and a network of parks and waterbodies.
The district will also serve as a living lab for companies, students and the public to test digital and smart living solutions. For example, the Singapore Institute of Technology will work with Group-IB (a partner of Interpol and Europol) to design and engineer a virtual testing environment suitable for early-stage companies and start-ups to test the vulnerability of their solutions to cyber-attacks.
