Spanish solar developer Solarpack has been awarded a 21-year power purchase agreement (PPA) by the Malaysian Energy commission Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) for a 116-MW solar park, the “Suria Sungai Petani” project, located in the state of Kedah. Based on the proposal, the solar park will be connected to the grid and allowed to sell power to the national utility company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
The deal sets the price of electricity at MYR 231.8/MWh (USD 56.7/MWh) and the project has to be commissioned before 31 December 2021. Solarpark is expected to produce around 180 GWh per year and to gain revenue over MYR 800 million (USD 196 million) for the entire contract’s duration.
Solarpack was selected as one of the five winners from 112 bidders for the final phase of Large-Scale Solar (LSS) 3, the third round of the national procurement program for utility-scale PV system. Other shortlisted bidders include German developer ib Vogt and Malaysian company Coara Solar in Terengganu state, Cypark Resources Bhd and Impian Bumiria Sdn Bhd in Terengganu state, French Energy company Engie and Malaysian company TTL Energy Sdn Bhd in Perak state as well as Konsortium Beseri Jaya Sdn Bhd and the Singapore unit of South Korea’s Hanwha Group in Pahang state.
