Thai Department of Highways to Work on Seven Major Projects During 2020

Thailand’s Department of Highways has seven key projects lined up for 2020, with a combined value of more than THB 124 billion (USD 4.1 billion), reported the Bangkok Post. Design work has been completed for five of the projects.

  • Fifth Thai-Lao friendship bridge connecting Bung Kan province in Thailand and Bolikhamsai province in Laos, which will be 16 kilometers long and cost THB 3.9 billion (USD 128 million), with THB 2.6 billion (USD 86 million) to be paid by Thailand.
  • 16 km eastern bypass for Nong Khai, worth THB 3 billion (USD 99.2 million), aiming to ease traffic congestion and link Nong Khai province to Laos.
  • 22 km highway linking the Eastern Economic Corridor and U-Tapao airport worth THB 3 billion (USD 99.2 million) at consideration stage.
  • 24 km outer ring road for Nakhon Ratchasima, worth THB 3.06 billion (USD 101.2 million).
  • 26 km four-lane road linking Phangnga and Surat Thani’s Ban Ta Khun district, worth THB 1.6 billion (USD 53 million), to support logistics and transport.
  • 25 km motorway, worth THB 32.2 billion (USD 1.06 billion), linking Bang Khunthian district of Bangkok and Samut Sakhon’s Ban Phaeo district.
  • 109 km motorway worth THB 79 billion (USD 2.6 billion) linking Nakhon Pathom and Phetchaburi’s Cha-am district.

The last two projects will be carried out under the public-private partnership model and cabinet approval is going to be sought for them.
